Earth is Talking

Is it just me, or are there more and more large earthquakes happening lately?  8.8 Magnitute Earthqake in Chili – which, was 500 times more powerful they said than the Haiti quake.

Here are the listing of the significant earthquakes from the USGS Site for 2010. Seems to me, something is going on – gee, dunno.

Now there is a tsunami warning for the coast Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington and all the way up to Alaska.  Hawaii ofcourse is on the list for the warning and the tsunami will hit there they said in about 4 hours.  You can read more at the link.

I hope every keeps safe.  Looks like the Tsunami waves aren’t that big though… let’s hope.

Meanwhile, seems the earth is talking!  Could be time to listen.

Stay safe, and my thoughts are with Chili and everyone involved.

Weird Craving

Seriously weird craving.

I’m actually finding myself pouring a coffee cup of hot water for myself.  That’s it, just water.  No tea in it.  Strange!  Anyone know what that means?!

Starting a New Book Series – Mercy Thompson

Well, as you know from the prior post I was done with the series from Kelley Armstrong.  I’m definitely awaiting her book due out this August, BUT I have to read something.  So I was venturing around for another series.

I just bought the first book in a series.  The author is Patricia Briggs and the Series is the “Mercy Thompson” series.  Looks interesting.  Shape shifters, vampires, werewolves – I’ll let you know what I find and weather I like it or not.

Here’s to reading!

Moon Called (Mercy Thompson)

Feeling a Change

I don’t know who I am right now.

I know my titles “Momma”, “Daughter”, “Wife” and “Friend” amongst other things.  I’m thankful for all of those positions in folks’ lives.  But – who am I?  I go through my day acting perfectly fine – but inside I’m screaming to run.

I get to find me.

This is not me.

This job is not me.

This body I’m in is not me.

So much is not me.

It’s time to find me!

Now…

… where do I start?!

A wonderful thing about having a blog, you can look back to see if there are any trends.  Unfortunately, this “Missing Monica” trend has been going on way too long.

Unbalanced, neither here nor there – this is getting absolutely rediculas and a waste of time.  My time.  From what I can tell I have been out of touch with myself for years now.

Seriously.

This has got to stop!

You’ll never leave where you are – until you decide where you’d rather be

Progression of a Child

My son is graduating the USMC Basic Training on March 5th. I’m very proud of him, but ofcourse am feeling a bit of loss as I’ve stated here before.  I’ll get over it, but with alot of talking about it I’m sure.  I wanted to put up a progression series of photos here.  Enjoy.

Book Series Review – Women of the Otherworld, Kelley Armstrong

I’m a reader.  Pure and simple.  I love to read and fall into another time and place you know?  I especially enjoy the supernatural.  Trouble is, I can read a normal paperback book in under a few hours.  The difficulty with that is the following:

  1. My time of enjoyment is pretty limited.  A few hours of intrigue in a fiction book, certainly doesn’t carry my attention for long.
  2. After reading a book – I’m stuck wishing I could have more!
  3. Example, a Harry Potter book was read by me in less than a day.  So I was left wanting forever!
  4. Twilight books – same thing, read them too fast – then left wishing for more.
  5. Frustrating!

I do have a Kindle.  This helps a lot because any book is only a download away you know?  If you don’t know – here’s the Amazon Link for it.  Check it out.  Unfortunately, I don’t believe the wireless coverage is outside of the US much.  But I think the Sony Reader is.  Not sure.  You can check the coverage map to check.

Anyway, I get really agitated over series’ that start off great and then seem to taper off.  What I mean is – take Harry Potter and the Twilight Series.  Both of which I think the authors were pushed too fast to get the books out there.  So the first and second in the series were great!  Then, come the 3rd books on – not well done at all.  I bet if they had left the authors to take the time they needed to write them, they would have continued to be good.  But alas – Hollywood has it’s timelines eh?  So finding a well done series is always what I’m on the hunt for.  Kelley Armstrong is one author that has it done right!

I found this series called “Women of the Otherworld”.  The author is Kelley Armstrong.  I found it by accident because I purchased her 10th book in the series, brought it home – and noticed it was part of a series.  I should have looked – but I’m glad I didn’t or I might not have stumbled on this author.  Her series is about a paranormal world secretly within our own.  Witches, sorcerers, demons, necromancers, vampires and werewolves to name a few.  The series has new characters and characters you get to know along the way.  Very well written!

After bringing home book 10, I immediately bought and downloaded books 1-9 on my Kindle to read before reading the 10th!  There is also a number 11 in the series that she will have out later this year I suppose.  I’m really looking forward to it.  I highly recommend this author and these books.

These are her books in the “Otherworld” series in order.  The links do link to Amazon under my associates ID.  :)   Take a look if you’d like!

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, Book 1)
Stolen: A Novel
Dime Store Magic (Women of the Otherworld)
Industrial Magic (Women of the Otherworld, Book 4)
Haunted (Women of the Otherworld, Book 5)
Broken (Women of the Otherworld, Book 6)
No Humans Involved (Women of the Otherworld, Book 7)
Personal Demon (Women of the Otherworld, Book 8)
Living with the Dead (Women of the Otherworld, Book 9)
Frostbitten (Women of the Otherworld, Book 10)

The new one coming out in August 2010 in Hardcover is:

Waking the Witch (Women of the Otherworld, Book 11)

All of her characters are very well thought out.  I’m excited for the Book 11 to come out!  I can’t wait!

By the way – in no way is this review paid for by Kelley Armstrong or any one at all.  The links are to the Amazon site and have my associates ID related, that would be the only money I could get from this.  In other words, I love the series and no one paid for me to say it!  Ha!

Enjoy!
