Missing Monica
Well….
I’ve had so many things happen in my life since late 2004 that to be very honest, I haven’t felt balanced at all.
Adjusting to married life has been a bit difficult for me to be very honest. I’m so used to my independence – not with dating others, but just doing what I want when I want.
Like for instance, working in the yard at night. Sounds easy enough, but I’d always feel so guilty when I wasn’t inside the house making sure my husband was okay. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s from my prior marriage when I was really young. I was only doing what my husband would do… you know?
So I’ve been cutting the cord so to speak. I joined SAR (search and rescue) and that’s my time (and my puppy’s!), I’m planning trips without the hubby… just me and the kids, like we used to. I’ve been out in the yard listening to the frogs and crickets while planting and replanting… these are parts of who I am.
I enjoy traveling. I enjoy the outdoors. I enjoy my children. I enjoy my hubby, but we do get to keep who we are as individuals. I even GLADLY pushed him into buying his newest vehicle – a 1972 Gran Torino and he’s been at the shop working on it quite a bit. YEAH! He’s stopped that for years and years and has finally pulled that part of him back up. I’m SO glad!
I have missed who I am and have been slowly but surely working to get myself back. I’m a wife, mother, business owner, sister, daughter, granddaughter, neice, friend, acquaintance, neighbor, volunteer – but underneath all of that, I’m Monica.
I’ve missed Monica.
Hugs to all of you.

… married but still free …
What Was Your First Vehicle?
Here’s a trip down my memory lane. My first vehicle was a 1980 Ford Pinto. Beige. I bought it all by myself for $400.00. The stereo system I put in after I bought it was worth 3-4 times the price of the car. Oh, and I had fuzzy seats for comfort!! Ahhh…. those were the days.
Hey, I was proud of it! The photo above is a 1979 pinto, but it’s the same kinda thing really. I traded that in for a 1986 Mini Truck (oh a WHOLE ‘nother post).
So, it’s time for my daughter to get her first ever car. Jessica will be 19 in March and is doing well in college and working. Bless her little heart. So her daddy goes and buys her "The First Car". Yeah…. wanna see it?!
That is an Audi TT. Year, 2000. Okay…. um, what the?! How come SHE gets the cute little car huh? Oh that spoiled little… "ahem".
She looks um…. "smokin’" in the car really and she’s ear to ear in smiles. Her daddy did good. BTW he’s a great dad really, and not just ’cause of the car.
So, my little girl is out zoom zoomin’ in that little sports car! OH, remember now… I am not allowed to drive yet. So on Thanksgiving when she came to show us the car she went to hand me the keys to take ‘er out for a spin and pulled them back a little flushed saying, "oh momma, I’m sorry you can’t drive".
DOH! oh no no no no fair! hee hee
So, now what… I have three boys comin’ up in line for vehicles. Jimmy will be 17 in 2 weeks… I was thinkin’ something like the AMC Gremlin ~ whatcha think?
Hmmm…. hey, whatever happened to work and buy it yerself?!
Okay, well…. the boys have been told if they wanna drive they have to pay the insurance. Not sure if that’s even feasible. Lordy.
There, that’s my first vehicle story…. I’ve had 22 since. Yes, the family has an issue with cars… I’m ashamed. ::sigh::
But an Audi?! oh fer cryin’ out loud….
Love and Light and what is up with the gasoline prices?! It’s over $4.00 / gallon in SF right now. We need to just use skates or bikes.
Park them cars and get into some sort of different transportation. Or something…
Love and Light to all of you!
Mon
(who would have LOVED a sports car when she was young!)
Random Thoughts
Hi there!
My dearest husband took off for a day to Utah for a reunion of our training group. It’s funny, ’cause I’m so happy for him to get out and get away for a bit of time to himself. He’s had such a rough time as of late… what with things here at the house, his father being at the end of cancer, and a load of work. I’m glad he’s taking this time to go have some genuine fun.
He and I have been married since May of 2006 and integrating a family has been very interesting and at times a huge test of our spirits. We’ve done great in my opinion, but there are always times when each of us, married or not, need time to ourselves. Because even when you are married, I truly believe you are still individuals as well.
I remember when marriage was simply something I didn’t have a need for. I was a single mother for upwards of 10 years and did very well on my own. I was quite independent and simply “knew” I could take it all on. I did take it all on, and succeeded.
Then the issue of marriage came up and he and I simply “dived” in. We ran away and got married and happilly. Both of us had stated we would never get married again, and that we didn’t “need” to be married. Funny, as much as we said it was as hard as we ran to do it.
Life being a combined family has its ups and downs to be sure. But I have to say, sharing this life with him is simply wonderful. No doubts there.
The children are doing well. Stephen has been happy and healthy, James has been happy too – After all mom has been home 24/7 and given them both ample family time.
I work from the time I get up to the time I go to sleep now. Owning your own business requires that you take care of your clients – and I have to say it’s very enjoyable. Having the ability to work from my home and be with the kids has been very refreshing. Although, we pay for an office in a city away… I have been working from the house to be sure I’m home right now for Stephen.
I’m getting a bit antsy. I haven’t driven since June 14th of this year and my brand new (under 4k miles) Lexus is dusty in the garage. Not being able to drive has taken a bit of a toll on my good natured self. I sometimes feel very “caged” and totally dependent on my husband to get me from point A to point B. I’m sure my license will be good in at the most January of 2008. Although the 6 months hits on 12/14/2007 – it does take the California Dept. of Motor Vehicles quite a while to process paperwork. So I’m giving it until January so I won’t be let down.
After all of this happened with Stephen I noticed how much love and caring those around me had to share. Family came out of the wordwork to be sure all was well. Friends were right there for me when I needed them. Including my “Blogging” friends. Thank you for the uplifting comments and emails. You are appreciated.
Well, enough rambling and back to work.
My love to you and yours…
Sincerely,
Monica (albiet caged, but still smiling)
My Car
So that’s it for our zoom zooms and I don’t mean Mazda. We are a bit into cars. Trouble is…
WHY?!
Too many vehicles can be extremely costly.
Insurance, Registration… yadda yadda yadda.
We do have the regular cars… the van and the Expedition. So my question is… what the heck?!
I mean we can’t let the kids use the cars or our insurance is going to sky rocket.
::sigh::
It’s sometimes where you wonder what the heck are ya doing? My only answer is – we simply love the cars. It’s our fun I suppose.
The Mustang doesn’t get driven much nor the CRX to be sure. The Mustang in fact is a 2005 and has under 7k miles on it. So again, I ask… WHY?!
Oh fer cryin’ out loud. Anyone have any thoughts on our insanity?
My hubby and the S2k
Is he cute or what? Okay… well… LOL It’s supposed to be a post on or about the car.
He does have the hardtop for this as well. This is the one in the shop.
Arlen Ness Big Dog – Daniel’s
This is another fun one… !! I can’t wait for spring!
CRX – Daniel’s
Rettna was discussing one of the cars and I thought I’d post our other ones that are in the realm of “fun”. This one is Daniel’s CRX.
S2k
This is a photo that I took last year. Daniel and I love our vehicles. Right now this poor vehicle is in the shop.
Doh!
