What Was Your First Vehicle?

Here’s a trip down my memory lane.  My first vehicle was a 1980 Ford Pinto.  Beige.  I bought it all by myself for $400.00.  The stereo system I put in after I bought it was worth 3-4 times the price of the car.  Oh, and I had fuzzy seats for comfort!!  Ahhh…. those were the days.

Hey, I was proud of it!  The photo above is a 1979 pinto, but it’s the same kinda thing really.  I traded that in for a 1986 Mini Truck (oh a WHOLE ‘nother post).

So, it’s time for my daughter to get her first ever car.  Jessica will be 19 in March and is doing well in college and working.  Bless her little heart.  So her daddy goes and buys her "The First Car".  Yeah…. wanna see it?!

That is an Audi TT.  Year, 2000.  Okay…. um, what the?!  How come SHE gets the cute little car huh?  Oh that spoiled little… "ahem".  ;)   She looks um…. "smokin’" in the car really and she’s ear to ear in smiles.  Her daddy did good.  BTW he’s a great dad really, and not just ’cause of the car.  ;)

So, my little girl is out zoom zoomin’ in that little sports car!  OH, remember now… I am not allowed to drive yet.  So on Thanksgiving when she came to show us the car she went to hand me the keys to take ‘er out for a spin and pulled them back a little flushed saying, "oh momma, I’m sorry you can’t drive".

DOH!  oh no no no no fair!  hee hee

So, now what… I have three boys comin’ up in line for  vehicles.  Jimmy will be 17 in 2 weeks… I was thinkin’ something like the AMC Gremlin ~ whatcha think?

Hmmm…. hey, whatever happened to work and buy it yerself?!

Okay, well…. the boys have been told if they wanna drive they have to pay the insurance.  Not sure if that’s even feasible.  Lordy.

There, that’s my first vehicle story…. I’ve had 22 since.  Yes, the family has an issue with cars… I’m ashamed.  ::sigh::

But an Audi?!  oh fer cryin’ out loud….

;)   Love and Light and what is up with the gasoline prices?!  It’s over $4.00 / gallon in SF right now.  We need to just use skates or bikes.

Park them cars and get into some sort of different transportation.  Or something…

Love and Light to all of you!

  • Mine was an 87 Buick Skyhawk with a sunroof. I loved that car. Till it died.

  • Oh Monica you really took me for a drive down memory lane. My first car was actaully a 69 Ford Mustang Mach1! Swwweeet. Until…. I got pregnant. The cool ass cherry car had to go and get this…. we had to get … I am so ashamed… a Ford Pinto Wagon! AUGH!!!!!!!!! I know you are laughing.

Yep, kids are lucky now. Except for the gas prices. We paid $2.78 the other day but that was using our frequent buyers card at a grocery store we shop at. It is averaging $2.99.

Remember when gas was like a buck? Holy crap!

    Have a great weekend, Mon.

    Hugs,
    T.

  • My parents bought me a bus pass when I was in high school. LOL :-D

Sweeeeeeeet! That is the word for that car. Oh my that must have been fun. Funny thing, I had a Camaro IROC then, I got pregnant and out came a ’78 Pinto again. LOL rather, I had the kid but had to get a more um, well… a car that would fit a carseat without it sliding sideways in the bucket seats!

Ah the days of cheaper gasoline………..

  • Mine was a 1972 Toyota Corona. No one ever wanted to ride with me which was ok because it meant I saved on gas :)

    Hi Sara!

Thank you so much for sharing! Okay, one of my great friends had this car and it was one of the funnest in high school! Seriously, she had an absolute blast in it – no doubt.

As for saving gas, you got the better side of it all! I remember my poor friends having to take everyone everywhere… seems to me no one offered $$$ for the trips either. ;)

Thank you so much for sharing and I like your blogs!!

  • Hehe I LOVE MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!! =)

my mom is the best…I’ll take your pinto any day hahaha…

wait..when you get your license back that is hehe :)

  • I wanted a Mach1 as my first car but instead got the family van and then a 4 door stickshift which I subsequently lost when I left home a few months later, my first car I bought was an 82 Firebird, too bad I didn’t keep that one, I guess they are rare now and worth alot of money :) And somewhere between the 4 door stickshift and the firebird I had a pinto, a mini-truck and a motorcyle…memories

    Julie!

Funny you and I had some cars in common. Except the motorycycle. ;)

It’s funny how cars can be memories eh? I had the mini truck too. Oh that was fun! I got it stuck on a curb. Seriously. LOL

  • All of you really are fast car kind of people :) My father bought me a jeep instead. He said he do not want to see me speeding and getting caught by the police. Instead he would rather see me climbing on rocks with my jeep.

  • Monica Ford

:) Running from the cops isn’t so fun eh? :)
